(Copied over from old blog)
I had a post about this in my old blog but I see it did not make it to this one. Too bad. It is one of the most important items I like to speak about.
A lot of what I write about is how to give great customer service. But do you know how to GET great customer service?
Use the name of whomever is serving you when speaking to them. The name is one of the most underused items in the customer service world. Whenever anybody walks up to you and says “Welcome to Pizza Hut how can I help you?” look at their nametag and use their name from that point forward. This is a sure fire way to get some of the best service ever. Do it at Walmart. Do it at McDonalds. Do it every place.
Do you have a regular coffee shop you go to? How about a regular chinese buffett (Yes I do)? Learn the name of the people that work there are use it from the moment you walk in the door. Yell it if you have to. In most cases you will make their day. More than likely they will want to know your name pretty soon. And it will make YOUR days when you walk in next time.
Give it a shot. I dare you. Do it tommorrow and come back here and tell me about your results. This is your challenge for this week.

Good word, Patrick. I have a friend who I’ve observed do this and he get’s amazing service.
Glad you like it sir. Spread the word. It will make the world a better place.
Hi Patrick
You are soooo on target! This is actually one of the tips I’ve used for increasing the Kindness Quotient in the world. Once I started doing this, I found that I got amazing service from almost everyone who served me in some way. And the funny thing is how good I feel when I do it…talk about win-win, eh?
A friend of mine was here from Germany and was stunned to see that in action…she said it wasn’t that way in Germany and she loved how it worked. She got the courage to try it at a Starbucks in a German train station…she said the woman had a huge smile on her face and seemed stunned and pleased.
Amazing how much hearing our name makes a difference in how we feel!
Keep up the good work.

Thanks. Keep spreading the word. And we need to be sincere about it too. No fakers when it comes to being kind.
I’ve been using this practice for years.Usually when I am saying thank you for their help..I got very positive results in retail stores over the holidays. Good stuff…keep it up!
Thanks Ray. You figured out the magic a long time ago then. Keep it up.
Greeat post Patrick! I so agree – do what you want more of in life! If you want people to be nicer do it first! I remember one time I was at the grocery store and said to the checker: “Hi Tom, how are you today.” He replied: “How’d you know my name?” Well, dude it’s on your chest! Even they forget because no one calls them by name! He always says hi and offer to help me out now!

Thanks Ann. You mean that people should be nicer proactively and not reactively? What a great concept. Too bad most people don’t get it like you do.
Glad you like it sir. Spread the word. It will make the world a better place.
