KSBI TV: Social Media sites during news & disasters

Here are the tips from the Monday 4/29 KSBI TV show about where to go on social media during Oklahoma news events and disasters

  1. At the first sign of weather charge your phone and tablet
  2. Install the Twitter and Facebook mobile applications ASAP. Each press outlet also has their own apps.
  3. Follow this list on social media from a web browser or your phone: https://twitter.com/patrickallmond/okc-press. This is list of all of the news outlets on Twitter.
  4. Follow the utility companies on Twitter:
    @cityofokc
    @normanwater
    @ogande
    @nwsnorman
    @ounwcm
  5. Follow local government on Twitter:
    @okcpd

KSBI TV: Hootsuite & Tweetdeck on Social Media Monday

Our Social media topics this week were Hootsuite, Tweetdeck and Ping.fm

Social Media Monday Discussion

First one that we talk about is ping.fm. What this site does is connect all your accounts together so you can send a status and hit multiple accounts all at once.

Second one is Tweetdeck that allows you also to connect multiple social media accounts and you can see everything that’s going on these accounts. The downside of this application is it requires you to download it to your computer.

Hootsuite is similar to tweedeck where you can also connect several social media accounts and see what’s going on them in one dashboard. Unlike Tweetdeck however, you don’t need to download this application because Hootsuite is web-based, so you access it anywhere online. One very cool feature of Hootsuite is the ability to schedule message status to be sent at a specific time to the social media accounts you added to it, all at once, as you wish. You can also measure how much people are hooking on the status feeds you are sending through it.

(I apologize for those new visitors coming to this page and finding a missing video. It seems the KSBI website that was hosting this video session has taken down some of their old videos. I had no control over that, but I am sorry for your wasted click. Please look around the site for some other great content )

Video: Patrick Allmond chats with Lyn Hester at KSBI

I was lucky enough to be invited to KSBI – a local television station here in Oklahoma City – to talk about social marketing with the host Lyn Hester. It was a live show so I had all kinds of chances to screw it up 🙂 The session went well and that day I was invited back to be a regular contributor by the host and the producer. Tuesday I received an email from the host asking me to come back this Thursday and be a co-host for the full hour of the show. I don’t know what I did (maybe it was the purple shirt) but I need to find that mojo and use it more often.

We talked about social media using the most basic of terms. My goal was to get the audience to under the important of the interaction and how easy it is with the tools we have. On the future sessions that I visit I am going to start breaking down the full circle of marketing more for the audience. The sound is not the best but if you turn it up you can hear it just fine. Many thanks (and please follow) @Allographics for operating the Flip Cam (which is now considered a ‘classic’ camera).
