SDN EP: 99 – Compete Every Day with Jake Thompson

“Most people live by what we can get done in an eight hour period,
which is not the best way to survive.”  -
Patrick Allmond (07:35-07:46)

If you're serious about being an entrepreneur, it's crucial to learn from someone who can point you in the right direction. In this week's episode, let's talk about “Compete Every Day” with Jake Thompson.

Part One of ‘Compete Every Day with Jake Thompson’

Jake started the brand in 2011 by selling t-shirts from the trunk of his car behind a gym. Over the last 8+ years, the brand has been adopted by athletes, creators, entrepreneurs, and individuals pursuing their full potential and best career. Being "just good enough" isn't.

Today, Compete Every Day's apparel is sold online at CompeteEveryDay.com and through its network of 20+ retailers throughout the US and internationally.

“Video marketing should help with pre-selling your coaching
or speaking packages.” - Patrick Allmond (16:43-17:00)

Jake speaks around the US to companies, conferences, & athletic programs on how to adopt the Compete Every Day mindset, accountability, and focus for success in life.

The Compete Every Day Podcast features weekly interviews with leaders in business, fitness, psychology, and sports that explores what drives Championship performers and how listeners can make winning changes in their work, workouts, and life.

Part Two of ‘Compete Every Day with Jake Thompson’

It's so easy for us to get distracted and compare ourselves with other businesses in our space. We try to prove that we can be as strong as they are. But why don't we focus on what our actual strengths are?

Jake shares how important it is to spend your money on photography and the branding of your products. Quit spending money on things you don't necessarily need just, so your customers see you in a higher status.

“Quit spending money on things you don't necessarily need so that you feel like customers see you in a different status light.” -  Jake Thompson (30:07-30:14)

Now, how does he operate his business differently? He writes a thank you note to every person on the card. The printed card says, "Hey, we don't take your purchase lightly. We know how hard it is to earn your money. We appreciate you investing it with us and, more importantly, investing it to reinforce the message with you that you're going to compete."

Jake Thompson believes that every day is a competition - against your pride, comfort zone, fear, complacency, snooze alarms, bad habits, bad relationships, and more.

It's not about you versus them. It's about you versus you.
