Workout Update 2012-1-22

Today was a great day.

  1. I was able to get back into a real live gym. If you’ve been following my previous workouts you will see that I have been working out in my gym recently. Today I went around the corner (less than a mile as the crow flies) and joined the YMCA that my wife belongs to. Ever since I first touched a barbell back in in 1987 I’ve been hooked. To say I love bodybuilding is a dramatic understatement. Getting back into a gym is pure joy for me. I worked on 3 of the 6 major area where I measure 1RM – One Rep Max. That is the maximum weight you can lift one time. I worked on: Bench Press, Squat and Barbell Curl. During my next workout I’ll work on Deadlift, Bent Over Row and Overhead Press. Once I know the max I can lift in each of these six I’ll know how to structure my workouts going forward.
  2. I updated my bodyspace and set my weight and strength goals for next 6 months. You can see my bodyspace at bodybuilding.com HERE.
  3. I worked out with my wife. We will see how this goes. We have never worked out together, and I tend to be a loner and very focused when I workout. But I can be flexible.

Garage Workout Update 12-27-2011

It took me a week but I snuck in another workout behind my own back. If that even makes sense.

Keep this in mind: I don’t workout to brag. I workout so I can live. And I workout so hopefully one of my workouts will encourage YOU to stop making excuses, get off of your butt, and go start working out yourself. We don’t get these days or this body back. We get one shot. Don’t spend it on YouTube or internet porn. Get out and take care of your body.

Warmup: Pushups x 20

OH Press: 20x20lb bar only, 30 x 10 reps, 40 x 10 reps, 50 x 10 reps

Curlbar Curl: 20 x 20 lb bar only, 20 x 10 reps, 30 x 10 reps, 40 x 10 reps

Bent over rows: 20 x 20 lb bar only, 40 x 10 reps, 50 x 10, 60 x 10

Hammer Curls: 8lbs x 20 reps, 25 x 6 reps, 25 x 8 reps, 25 x 9 reps

Hit the iron. Do it today. No excuses.

Workout Update 12-20-2011

I have been having an on-again off-again love with the weightlifting. I don’t have a gym membership right. And it is getting way to cold to workout in the garage. But all I have to do is take a look at my weight, BMI and blood pressure. Those numbers are screaming at me telling me I have no good reason for not finding a way to work out.

To that end I hit the iron in the garage this evening. I took it easy as anybody should, and I did no cardio. Here is the workout from the garage tonight.

Warm Up:

Overhead Press: 20 – straight bar alone

Curls: 20 – straight bar

Bent Over Rows: 20 straight bar alone

Hammer curls: 8lb dumbbell weights x 20

Note: This was a very light warm up. I’m 6’2″ and 240. But I am taking it easy as I do whenever I start back up :)

OH Press (all sets of 10):  20lbs, 30lbs, 40lbs

Bent over rows (all sets of 10) 40lbs, 50lbs, 50lbs

Note: All weights are weights only not counting the bar. I estimate the straight bar weighs 20lbs. Not an olympic bar.
