Ahhhhhhh. The great web 2.0. User generated media. Nothing could be greater in the world than having the masses decide what is news, and then having the masses decide what news is the best for the rest of is. This is a great way to operate and is best for you, me and everybody around us.

Or is it?

If you ever want to see a good example of bad web 2.0 implemention. look no further than digg.com (and pick any of the similarly related types of social media sites – You can replace ‘Digg’ with any of the other site names). Digg is nothing but a good example of geeks geeking out. For the most part you have these kinds of stories that get posted at Digg:

1. Pictures that have been circulating around via email for ten years.

2. Headlines ripped from the pages of cnn.com, msnbc.com, foxnews.com, etc.

3. Simple news headlines greatly exaggerated

4. Top x lists of how bad or good something is (Top 10 utilities, Top 8 Worst websites., etc)

5. Stories about Digg. This is one of the most popular categories.

If you visit Digg on a regular basis what you will get is not news, not informative and not helpful. For the most part it will be a complete waste of time and clicks. If you ever want comic relief though – that is the place to go! Nothing like watching geeks arguing back and forth about each others comments about the inane posts.

Want to gain some more time your life ? STOP visiting websites like this. STOP subscribing to their RSS feeds. STOP bookmarking them. STOP copying and pasting links to them in your emails and IMs. You are wasting your time and the time of people around you.
